Both Short Point Beach as well as Middle Beach are easily Beach Cabins Merimbula-Salmon caught at Middle Beachaccessible for anglers staying in Merimbula. Most common species off the beach include Australian Salmon, Tailor and Flathead. Best bait and rig options are whole pilchards (salted or plain) on a gang-hook with a running pyramid sinker. We have found the best time to fish for Australian Salmon is 1 hour before high tide. Look out for the deeper gutters where waves aren’t breaking.

Beach Cabins Merimbula - Flathead caught at Back LakeBack Lake is accessible from the Short Point car park (or a short stroll down the lawn if you’re staying at Beach Cabins Merimbula) and offers good fishing options for Flathead and Bream. Both bait (prawns or pilchards) as well as lures (soft plastics) are the best options here. Look out for the deeper channels and pools along the eastern or northern shorelines.

Merimbula Lake is also a good option: the channel coming into the lake offers good spots, such as near Mitchies Jetty, or near Spencer Park; especially for children or beginner anglers. The area around the bridge is good for Trevally. You can also hire a boat from Top Lake Boat Hire:
